Cruz Focused On Pelosi’s Rejection Of Troops Ahead Of J6

A newly surfaced video shows Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) questioning Kash Patel about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s rejection of National Guard troops before Jan. 6, 2021.

At the time, Patel was chief of staff to acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller and had direct knowledge of security measures. During Patel’s FBI director confirmation hearing, Cruz asked about his actions on Jan. 6. Patel said they were preparing to deploy the National Guard but needed a formal request from local authorities, including Pelosi and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Patel testified that the Defense Department repeatedly offered assistance to Capitol Police, but these requests were denied. He confirmed the Capitol’s Sergeant at Arms, who reported to Pelosi, also declined support. Bowser, in a written statement before Jan. 6, rejected additional Guard assistance.

Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund also testified that his request for troops was denied, allegedly because Pelosi “would never go for it.” He believes the National Guard’s presence could have been a “game-changer.”
