During the initial confirmation hearing for Pam Bondi, nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of Attorney General, Senator Adam Schiff aggressively questioned her, insisting
that she refrain from prosecuting the political adversaries of President Trump. Observers on social media quickly highlighted Schiff’s apparent hypocrisy, with some even calling for his arrest.
In the course of the hearing, Schiff pressed Bondi regarding the potential investigation of Trump’s opponents, specifically asking, “Let me pose a straightforward question. The president also wishes to imprison Liz Cheney.” He further demanded a clear response on whether Cheney should be investigated, stating, “As you sit here today, are you aware of any factual basis to investigate Liz Cheney? Yes or no?”
After further exchanges, Schiff pressed, “Can you inform him that [he] lost the 2020 election? Can you affirm that? Do you possess the independence to state that you have the gravitas, the stature, the intestinal fortitude to declare, ‘Donald Trump, you lost the 2020 election’? Can you assert that here today?” Bondi replied, “Senator, what I can convey is that I will never engage in political maneuvering. You are attempting to draw me into a trap.”
